Plô Roucarels

Traveling through the green valleys and hills of the Limoux region, you immediately understand that this small wine region is an exception in Languedoc. South of Carcassonne, on the foothills of the Pyrenees, Julia and Julien Gil run a young 7-hectare wine estate here: Plô Roucarels for “small rocky plateau” in Occitan. The altitude of the plateaus as well as the climate, rather unusual for the region, mixing Mediterranean and oceanic influence, offer extraordinary growth conditions for the vines.

  • Winemaking

    Manual harvest with sorting on the vine. Plot selection. Fermentation after cold pre-fermentation maceration. Pigeage or pumping over following tasting. Natural fermentation without adding yeast. Assembly before barreling. Aging in French oak barrels for 24 months.

  • Tasting notes

    This red wine has aromas of cherries and plum on the nose as well as fine notes of liquorice and mocha. A beautiful depth in the mouth accompanies a strong character. This wine is also dense and concentrated on its aromas of black fruits.
